Our current project has just started, and was made possible by obtaining a Grant for £148,598 that comes from government’s Cultural Recovery Fund through Historic England’s Capital Works Programme which is part of this Fund. Historic England made a £3m allocation to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales for major repair works to Grade I and Grade II* listed churches and cathedrals. St Mary’s, Great Yarmouth, is one of 31 Catholic church projects in England being supported.
This Grant is specified to be used for the re-roofing of the Sanctuary, both side chapels and Old Sacristy.
This work is vital to ensure that the roof in really poor condition can be repaired using the original Welsh Slate.
Our Architects, CAROE ARCHITECTURE have supplied a drawing showing the highlighted area of the current project.
The contribution St. Mary's Church must raise and make towards the repairs is in the region of £37,150.Photographs of our current project progress can be seen on our Flickr page
This project must be completed by 31 March 2021, yes, 31 March 2021.
